Medical Students

Pediatrics Residency of Idaho (PRI) offers clerkships and sub-internships for medical students in Pediatrics. Students interested in Pediatric clerkships or sub-internships at PRI must first meet the criteria below:

  • 3rd Year Pediatrics Clerkships: PRI will accept third year clerkship medical students from the University Of Washington School of Medicine and the Pacific Northwest University College of Osteopathic Medicine
  • 4th Year Pediatrics Sub-Internship: PRI will accept fourth-year medical students who have completed a pediatric clerkship (with both inpatient and outpatient experience) on a space available basis for Pediatric sub-internships, after the 3 items noted below have been received, reviewed and approved. Our 4th year / sub-intern experience consists of approximately 45% pediatric hospitalist, 45% newborn nursery, and 10% outpatient primary care pediatrics. This is intended to give medical students a sampling of experiences that they would have as a resident at PRI, while also maximizing education.
    • Due to hospital credentialing, students who do not attend University of Washington, Pacific Northwest University, University of Utah or Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine and are applying for an inpatient, sub-internship rotation must first be approved by PRI and then the student’s medical school must have, or develop and complete, an active affiliation agreement with St. Luke’s Health Systems Boise and Full Circle Health. Medical students should contact St Luke’s Student Services at students@slhs.org to inquire if their medical school has an affiliation agreement that will still be active during their possible rotation dates.  If an affiliation agreement is not in place and their medical school has never had an affiliation agreement with St Luke’s, it can take up to 6 – 9 months to create a new affiliation agreement; if their medical school has had a prior affiliation agreement that has expired, completion of an updated affiliation agreement may take as little as 1 – 4 months.  Time is of the essence in completing these affiliation agreements, and it is the responsibility of the medical student to ensure that their medical school manages this process promptly.  If the affiliation agreement is not completed and in place at least 2 weeks prior to the start date for the rotation, then the rotation may need to be canceled (which we hope never has to happen).

Please note: A vehicle is required for these rotations, and we do not provide housing for students completing fourth-year rotations and non-University of Washington third year students. Housing and transportation in these cases will be your responsibility.

To apply for a fourth-year rotation, we require the following items:
